1- The Quad
When you enter the College building, you arrive at the Rickett Quadrangle (the Quad), which is the heart of the Hendon campus. The Quadrangle sits under a stunning glass roof, which is perfect for those bright sunny days and short winter days.
A stunning social space with opportunities to eat and drink, relax, socialise with friends or simply take your laptop to work while sipping through your coffee from Costa or having a bite to eat from the hot counter. The Quad is utilised for various events such as undergraduate/postgraduate open days, employability fairs and welcome events among others.
There is always something going on at ‘The Quad’.
Need assistance? Just to the left of the entrance, you'll find our welcoming Reception team ready to answer any questions and point you in the right direction. For security matters or help with student ID cards and building access, our dedicated security office is conveniently located on the right-hand side of the entrance.
There is a glass-door lift right in front of Costa counter for easy access to upper floors ensuring everyone can navigate our campus with ease.
Fun fact:
The Quad is named after Sir Raymond Rickett and is also called the Rickett Quadrangle.
2- MDX works
MDX works is situated in the Quad as you enter take a left keep walking through past the reception it is in the corridor. Their aim is to support students for exciting opportunities when they graduate. They also offer support for placement and internships as well as paid part-time opportunities in and out of the university through MDX Unitemps. MDXworks offers tailored support and guidance to students as they step into their careers, working with them consistently to identify their aspirations, strengths and potential, and how these can be utilised. They provide services such as building or improving CVs, writing a supporting statement, help with interviewing techniques, feedback on application forms and many more.
MDXworks runs two annual career fairs including Gradstock festival (in autumn) and CareerConnect (in spring).
Fun fact
Students can explore entrepreneurial oportunities with the help of MDXcelerator. This service offer support with understanding entrepreneurship and start-ups, building upon a business idea, developing a business plan and meeting potential co-founders. They offer exciting events for pitching challenges, provides training and seed-funding opportunities.
3- Lego crest
As you leave The Quad through the main door, you will observe in the entrance on the right a giant LEGO sculpture of Middlesex crest, made by students from Science and Technology.
The LEGO sculpture marked the National Student Survey (NSS) which is 1.9 metres high, with a 44,000 piece LEGO and took almost 800 students to build over two weeks. The crest was designed by UK’s only certified LEGO professional Duncan Titchmarsh and his team at Bright Bricks.
4 - College House
As you exit the Quad the pretty house-like building on your left hosts offices and seminar/meeting rooms.
5- Usher Hall
Across the road from our campus, you can see our closest Student accommodation, Usher Hall. Middlesex University has various halls of residence for students, the hall prices vary between £165 to £220 a week, offering a range of standard and ensuite rooms, with all amenities, facilities and communal spaces; and 24-hour security with secured entrances. Platt and Writtle Halls are a 20-minute walk from the Hendon campus.
6- The Paddock
Re-enter the university via the Scholar’s courtyard situated behind the College House. From the large courtyard you can access Williams building and Sheppard library and with a lovely park on your right, known as ‘The Paddock’.
This park is a perfect place to relax between classes, socialise, enjoy some fresh air or even study.
7- William building
Enter the large building on the right side of the courtyard via the main entrance. Williams building primarily consists of the Business School and School of Law, including faculty offices and some lecture rooms. The students can book office hours with faculty members to discuss their academic performance.
8- Model Farm
As you cross the William building you come out in another courtyard. Cross it to reach the Model Farmhouse where the global exchange office is situated. The team is there to advise students regarding study or work placements abroad. They also help incoming students if they want to undertake a study placement at Middlesex
9- Sunny Hill House
On the left of the Model Farmhouse, is Sunny Hill House where our Wellbeing Services Centre is based. Our Mental Health team provides counselling services for students who need emotional and psychological support to deal with studies and any personal challenges.
10- Shepphard Library
Make your way to the main entrance of the library.
- MDX library consists of five floors. The library services team, UniHelp, is situated on the ground floor and on the first floor students can get support with academic writing, numeracy, IT and get guidance from librarians. The library is open 24 hours during term-time. Study spaces are available on all floors, however, the second and third floors are silent study areas. The library also provides a laptop loan service.
- UniHelp is the first point of contact for students. A team of trained advisors provide guidance or help on any aspect of university life. This includes resolving queries such as attendance, timetable, financial and welfare services, library services, student portal or administrative tasks. Students can drop in via a ticketing system or book an appointment at UniHelp. Alternatively, they are also available via phone and online chat.
- Middlesex has a free mobile app ‘MDXapp’ which covers various aspects of student's life. This includes MyLearning, timetable, attendance registration, emails, transport as well as locating buildings on-campus and sending notifications for the latest updates of activities around campus.
11- Costa cafe
Leave the library via the cafe downstairs. The Costa cafe has beautiful glass windows and is perfect to grab a drink and have lunch while socialising or even studying with friends.
12- Disability Support Office
The disability support team provides support to students with specific learning difficulties or medical conditions which can impact their studies. They can also provide screenings for various specific learning difficulties.
13- Stone X Stadium
As you come out of the café we have a free shuttle bus service from the car park to StoneX Stadium which runs every 20mins and takes 10 mins to get there.
The Stone X stadium, home of the Saracen rugby team is a professional sporting facility which provides a real working environment to support academic programmes related to Sports science subjects. There are dedicated laboratories where students get a chance to study Physiology, Biomechanics and Performance Analysis; as part of their course. They use cutting-edge technologies such as motion capture, force sensing plates and full-body scanning.
14- Ritterman building
When you exit the library through Costa, the green building on your right is the Ritterman building. This building is the newest addition to the Hendon campus; featuring state-of-the-art facilities for Robotics, Interior Architecture and Dance and Fine Arts. Ritterman houses both Faculties of Arts and Science and Technology to bring together different disciplines and create opportunities for cross-collaboration.
The Ritterman building has been awarded the excellence rating under BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). The water management strategy collects 80% of rainwater. There also are solar panels on the roof.
15- Vine Building
Behind the Ritterman building you can find the Vine building which consists of several seminar rooms, designed for practical group discussion sessions.
16- Prayer rooms
Next to the Vine building on your right, is Portakabin 8 where men’s prayer rooms are situated. Right next to Portakabin 8, is the Sports Pavilion where women’s prayer rooms are situated. These prayer rooms are open to both students and staff.
17- The Nursery
Situated right next to Portakabin 8, Middlesex’s nursery support students and staff to successfully combine work and academic study with parenthood. The nursery is staffed with highly qualified and experienced early year practitioners.
18- Sport Pavilion
Next to the Nursery is the Sports Pavilion. Middlesex features a wide range of excellent sports facilities including football pitches, a bouldering wall and multi-use courts for tennis, basketball and netball. Middlesex has over 30 sports teams competing in sports such as football, rugby and tennis as well as futsal, cheerleading and taekwondo.
Middlesex sports teams have achieved success in regional and national competitions. Students have represented Great Britain in international competitions such as the World Student Games and at the Olympics.
MDX also boosts a Real Tennis court (situated next to the MDX house). It is an original racquet sport from which the modern game of tennis is descended and this is one of five courts in the all of the UK.
19- MDX House
MDX house is the social hub of the Hendon campus, where students come to relax and socialise over a drink or during lunch break over a meal in the food court at one of the various spots including Greggs, Tortilla and Subway. There are pool tables and foosball tables. There is a seating area outside as well for students to enjoy the fresh air or play table tennis or basketball.
20- Fitness Pod
Our on-campus fitness facility is situated on the lower ground floor of MDX house. It offers a £30 membership for the entire academic year for students. The fitness pod boasts a large range of equipment and changing rooms with shower facilities and lockers. The friendly and professional staff is always available if you need any assistance. The students can also use the Fitness Pod app to book classes.
For swimming, MDX students can use the swimming pool at Barnet Copthall Pool for free. Students can use the same free shuttle service as for Stone X stadium to get to the pool.
MDXmoves is a free physical activity application for Middlesex students and staff. It is a platform that records your activity including walking, running, cycling or swimming. Students can earn points by keeping active and can redeem those points for rewards such as free coffees or meals and MDX branded items.
21- MDX Student Union
ONt the way to the gym you will pass in front off Middlesex University Students’ Union (MDXSU). Our union is led by the students for the students. They exist so all students can make the most of their time at Middlesex. They support all aspects of student life including representing student views (through elected student voice leaders for each programme and student officers), campaigns for issues students are passionate about and provide opportunities for students to explore their hobbies and passions through various student societies and meet new people.
While Student Officers direct the work of MDXSU, they are supported by a team of 25 permanent full-time MDXSU staff who run MDXSU's opportunities and services, as well as part-time student interns and staff.
22- The Grove Park
As you leave MDX house, go right, as you follow the path a park will appear on your right-hand side. This is Grove Park which is a great place for students to hang out, eat and socialise or even sunbathe in the summer months.
23- The Grove building
A large staircase leads to the Grove building entrance.
This building supports students from the creative disciplines with state-of-the-art facilities including computer-controlled 3D printers, laser cutters, body casting facilities for Visual Arts and Design. For Graphic Design, Illustration and 2D and 3D Animation, the dedicated studios consist of over 40 iMac workstations with all the latest industry software.
For Fashion and Textiles students there are industrial sewing machines and heat press equipment among others. There are four professional studios for Photography students with large format colour print processor and a film processing room. Additionally, the building hosts graphics studios, recording studios, radio broadcasting studios and music production studios.
The Grove Atrium displays art pieces created by Middlesex's students. The Atrium also hosts various exhibitions and events for the creative arts disciplines such as the Middlesex Fashion show.
24- The Kit Hub
The Kit Hub situated in the Grove Atrium has a vast collection of art and media-based equipment available to hire to support the modules undertaken by students all year round. For instance, they stock video cameras, digital and analogue still cameras and LED lighting/sound recording devices whether you are recording for an interview or a scene of a film. The Kit Hub also allows students to book some standard studios and rooms, video editing suits and music studios.
25- The Hatchcroft building
The Hatchcroft building is home to Biomedical and Healthcare Sciences including state-of-the-art laboratories for Environmental Sciences, Computer Sciences, Psychology and Human Performance.
There are two modern lecture theatres with a capacity of nearly 550 students. The Computer Sciences labs consist of the latest computer technology and the Psychology labs use specialised equipment such as a new 128-electrode Electroencephalogram system (EEG) along with other industry-standard equipment.
For cardiac and neurophysiology programmes students are offered state-of-the-art medical monitoring equipment to practice recording the electrical activity of the brain, the health of nerve pathways and rhythm rate.
26- Building 9
As you walk towards the front of the campus, Building 9 is situated at the back of Hatchcroft. This building houses the Education Department it was recently refurbished and includes several flexible teaching areas, a designated early childhood play area and a modern ICT suite. Early childhood and education studies and teaching training are taught there.
27- Hendon Town Hall
Next to Building 9, is the Hendon Town Hall which hosts our Hendon Town Hall Chambers. Real courtrooms can be accessed by Law students for them to experience the buzz and atmosphere of a real courtroom. It features a 150-seat council chamber with a judges' bench, seating for counsel, court clerks and a public gallery. This makes the council chambers the perfect venue for holding moots or “mock court” sessions.
28- Hendon Library
Hendon Public library is on the left side of the town hall just minutes away from Middlesex's campus. It contains a great variety of books and a fully searchable catalogue including some interesting e-resources. Students can also come to study in the library.
29- Ravensfield building
Ravensfield is situated across the road from the campus it is the home of Performing Arts courses, Dance, Music and Theatre Arts. The building includes a performance space and other large rehearsal and teaching spaces such as a concert hall and a theatre.
Alumni from Performing Arts at Middlesex go to work in the West End's prestigious theatres. A Music Business and Arts Management BA alumni now performs in Les Miserable and other shows.
28- Hendon area
Middlesex University campus is well located in a vibrant multicultural neighbourhood with all the facilities needed right by your doorstep.
Students can explore the numerous restaurants, bars and shops. The campus is also an easy commute from central London by public transport.
Students can catch bus 143 or 326 in front of the campus to get to Brent Cross Shopping Centre which offers even more options for shops and eateries.
