YOUR UK PRE-DEPARTURE CHECKLIST
As you prepare for your exciting journey to study in the UK, our pre-departure checklist is here to make sure you've got everything covered before you hop on the plane.
From visas to packing tips this checklist will guide you through each step to ensure you're fully prepared for your adventure abroad.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR COUNTRY
1. Book your flight to the UK
2. Ensure passport validity (at least 12 months)
3. Check airline luggage restrictions
4. Check Transit Visa requirements if applicable
5. Check the best travel route from the airport to your accommodation by using Citymapper or TFL
6. Book your free Middlesex airport meet & greet service at Heathrow airport
7. Obtain UK Student Visa and Health Surcharge
8. Check Tuberculosis Test requirement
9. Consider private health insurance
10. Obtain Doctor's letter for any prescribed medications
11. Secure accommodation in Student Halls or privately
12. Consider opening online bank account (Revolut, MONZO)
13. Check if you need a travel adaptor for UK plugs
14. If you know your accommodation address, you can pre-send your luggage with 'Send My Bag'. They will collect your luggage directly from your home, and deliver it to your new address. You can also get a 10% discount through student discount companies TOTUM and Student Beans.
DOCUMENTS TO KEEP IN YOUR HAND LUGGAGE
UK border officers might ask you for some extra documents as you enter the country so it is always better to have them at hand. These should include:
1. Passport
2. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter
3. Academic certificates and English proficiency scores
4. Offer and acceptance letters from University
5. Financial support evidence (bank statements for the last three months and/or a sponsor’s letter)
6. Emergency contact numbers
7. Your accommodation address
8. Cash for immediate expenses
AFTER YOU'VE ARRIVED IN THE UK
1. Complete online enrolment
2. Collect Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
3. Register with a Local Doctor (GP)
4. Register with Police if required
5. Open bank account
6. Obtain UK SIM card
7. Obtain Student Oyster Card
8. Sign up for student discount cards (Student Beans, TOTUM)
9. Participate in Orientation Week events
